About Us

Hello and welcome! I’m Julienne.

The idea for Digitalaan came about after trying to organize the free resources I found on subjects I’ve been putting off learning. You see, I have been a freelance web developer for more than a decade, yet I was falling behind on new technologies. And though naturally inclined to sort and organize, the abundance of information online overwhelmed me.

That was when I remembered the one question beginner Freelancers and Virtual Assistants always ask on forums and communities: Where or How do I begin? That time I was asking precisely the same questions.

So started this project of putting everything in one place (and online) so that these materials would be accessible to anyone who needs them.

Together with writer and editor Lorie, Digitalaan‘s goal is to make an extensive and comprehensive list of quality resources for freelancers and virtual assistants. We want to prioritize free tools and learning materials. However, we also acknowledge the value of taking a premium or paid route.

We will also share what we know from our experiences, especially around these topics: Web and WordPress Development, SEO, Writing and Editing, among others.

May you find these pages helpful in starting or building your online career.

Name and Logo

Digitalaan logo grayDigitalaan was coined from the words “Digital” and “Talaan”, Tagalog for record or list.

When brainstorming for a logo concept, the image of a scroll kept showing up, so I first made a simple sketch. I later found you could form the letters ‘d’ and ‘T’ from the scroll outline.

The final logo also tries to mimic the precolonial Philippine writing system Baybayin.

“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
